Histamine, derived from histidine, plays a role in various metabolic processes. Its synthesis and degradation are linked to several other pathways, pointing out its significance in metabolism and homeostasis. Histamine is formed by the decarboxylation of histidine. It can be stored in large quantities within granules of mast cells and basophils or produced on-demand by macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells. Histamine, acting on the hypothalamus, influences appetite and metabolic rate. It enhances chemotaxis of immune cells, influences the sleep/wake cycle, cognition and energy regulation and affects vascular function. AkrivisBio’s Histamine Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure histamine with a sensitivity of below 10 µM in a variety of sample types.
