Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphate esters under alkaline conditions with the production of free phosphate. AkrivisBio’s ALP Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive assay to measure ALP activity in a variety of biological samples. In this assay the specific alkaline phosphatase substrate, p-nitrophenyl phosphate is hydrolyzed to phosphate ion and p-nitrophenol. P-nitrophenol formation is then monitored using a spectrophotometer at λmax 405 nm. The absorbance or color intensity is directly proportional to the alkaline phosphatase activity in the sample.
