Inulin, one of the group of chemicals, commonly referred to as fiber, a polymer of fructose, is indigestible by human digestive enzymes. Being
indigestible by humans it is available to gut microbiota as an energy source. It has a significant role as a prebiotic, stimulating the growth and
activity of beneficial gut bacteria, particularly bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. Fermentation of inulin results in the production of short chain fatty
acids which serve as an energy source for colonic epithelial cells. AkrivisBio’s Inulin Assay is a simple sensitive means of measuring inulin
content in a variety of biological samples. The kit is designed to be used using either absorbance at 450 nm with a detection limit of around 100
ng or fluorescence with a detection limit of approximately 1 ng.
