Choline Kinase catalyzes choline phosphorylation, the first step of the CDP-Choline pathway for phosphatidylcholine synthesis. There are two human isozymes, Choline Kinase α and β. CK α has a preference for choline as a substrate while the β form prefers ethanolamine. Choline Kinase plays a role in human disease. Increased CK α activity is frequently associated with a variety of cancers in breast, lung, colorectal, prostate and bladder tissue. CK β dysfunction appears to be involved in neuromuscular disease. AkrivisBio’s Choline Kinase Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive means of assessing Choline Kinase activity in a variety of sample types with a sensitivity below as 0.5 μU.
