Factor VIII, also called anti-hemophilic factor, is involved in the blood coagulation cascade where it is a cofactor for factor IXa which activates factor X, allowing for the formation of fibrin which forms a mesh, stabilizing the blood clot. Factor VIII also appears to be involved in several other activities, including angiogenesis, endothelial cell proliferation and migration, and influencing cell adhesion. Factor VIII deficiency leads to hemophilia A, resulting in prolonged bleeding, bleeding into joints and muscles and delayed wound healing. AkrivisBio’s Factor VIIIa Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure FVIIIa activity in serum or plasma with a sensitivity below 1 ng of FVIIIa.
