CYP1A2, a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily, is involved in the oxidative metabolism of a wide range of drugs, toxins, and environmental chemicals, including around 10% of clinically used medicines polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and other lipophilic compounds such as steroid hormones and fatty acids. Due to the significant genetic polymorphism exhibited by CYP 1A2, there is a large interindividual variability in both enzyme activity and its susceptibility to inhibition by such things as flavonoids found in some fruits and vegetables. This variability, along with the inducibility of the enzyme by many of its substrates, has a potentially profound effect on drug/drug interactions and the clinical effectiveness of prescribed medications. AkrivisBio’s CYP1A2 Activity Assay Kit is a simple, sensitive means of assessing CYP 1A2 activity in biological samples.
