Tyrosine is one of the four aromatic amino acids. Hydrophobicity is one of the main characteristics of this uncharged polar amino acid. Beyond being an important constituent of protein, tyrosine is a precursor for several classes of biochemicals (neurotransmitters, thyroid hormones, melanin, fumarate, acetoacetate).
