Arginine, a semi-essential amino acid participates in several biochemical pathways. Its varied roles extend beyond protein synthesis, encompassing the synthesis of important molecules and influencing physiological processes. Arginine is a precursor for NO, important for vasodilation and endothelial function. It participates in the urea cycle enabling the body to eliminate excess NH3, which is otherwise toxic. Arginine participates in creatine synthesis, important for muscle function and in polyamine synthesis, necessary for cell growth and proliferation. Altered arginine availability is seen in CKD contributing to cardiovascular disease, a common CKD comorbidity. AkrivisBio’s L-Arginine Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure L-arginine in a variety of biological sample types with a lower limit of sensitivity of less than 10 μM.
