DESCRIPTION

Enolase plays a central role in glycolysis. It converts 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. It also catalyzes the reverse reaction (PEP to 2-phosphoglycerate) during gluconeogenesis. Enolase has been found in every organism with a glycolytic pathway. Other than its role in glycolysis, enolase has been found to affect other functions such as transcriptional regulation, cell adhesion and stressor response. Extracellular enolase interacts with the extracellular matrix and proteins like laminin and fibronectin. Cancer cells may upregulate enolase to enhance their adhesion to the ECM, facilitating metastasis. Enolase also bind plasminogen, activating it as plasmin which can degrade ECM components AkrivisBio’s Enolase Activity Assay is a simple sensitive way to measure enolase activity in a variety of biological sample types with a sensitivity in the low μU range.
