Plasmin, a serine protease, is primarily involved with fibrinolysis and the regulation of coagulation in plasma, where it dissolves fibrin clots. Beyond that important purpose, plasmin has been found to be involved in a variety of metabolic roles including cell migration and tissue remodeling, energy metabolism and lipid regulation, inflammation and the immune response and there are indications that it may play a role in synaptic plasticity, blood-brain barrier regulation and neuroinflammation. Cancer cells can upregulate plasmin activity which can modify the tumor microenvironment and assist in cell invasion. Akrivisbio’s Plasmin Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure plasmin activity in biological samples with a sensitivity limit in the low microunits.
