Albuminuria, also known as proteinuria, is a pathological condition where albumin is found in the urine. The kidney normally does not filter large molecules and healthy people have only trace amounts, so the condition can be an indicator of damage to the kidneys, excessive salt intake or long-standing diabetes. Recent international guidelines classify CKD based on cause, GFR category and albuminuria category of which there are 3, A1, A2 and A3. The A1 category is from normal amounts up to 30 mg/g creatinine, A2 is 30 to 300 mg/g and A3, greater than 300 mg/g. AkrivisBio’s Albuminuria Assay is a simple, sensitive way to detect albumin in urine which utilizes a fluorescent probe which binds exclusively to albumin and not to other proteins.
