Creatine plays an important role in cellular energy metabolism, particularly in tissues with high energy demands such as skeletal muscle, brain, and heart, where it allows for rapid regeneration of ATP. Phosphocreatine serves as a high energy phosphate reservoir which can replenish ATP during intense exercise. Creatine supplementation augments muscle mass when combined with resistance training. This is due to enhanced protein synthesis, increased water retention which promotes an anabolic environment and upregulation of anabolic signaling pathways. Creatine also appears to improve glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity as well as exhibits neuroprotective effects. AkrivisBio’s Creatine Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure creatine in a variety of biological samples with a sensitivity in the low micromolar range.
