DESCRIPTION

Galactose, one of the major naturally occurring sugars, cannot be directly used by the human body. It is assimilated through the Leloir pathway through the mediation of galactokinase, galactose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase and UDP-galactose-4-epimerase. Once converted to glucose- 6-phosphate it can be utilized or be stored as glycogen. Cells grown in galactose in place of glucose rely heavily on oxphos and decreased glycolysis. AkrivisBio’s Galactose Assay is a simple sensitive way to measure galactose in a variety of samples with a sensitivity below 1 nanomole colorimetrically and below 50 picomoles using fluorescence.
