Beta Galactosidase, also known as lactase, cleaves the disaccharide lactose into its monosaccharide components, glucose and galactose, attached through a β linkage. The gene for β-Galactosidase is commonly used as a reporter in molecular biology. Senescence Associated β-Gal is an isoform with optimal activity at pH 6.0,(compared to most isoforms with a maximum activity at pH 4.5) is used as a biomarker for senescent cells. Beta Galactosidase is also part of the system activated during fruit ripening and softening. AkrivisBio’s Beta Galactosidase Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure Beta Galactosidase activity in samples with a sensitivity below 100 µUnits per sample.
