DESCRIPTION

Glucose oxidase, found primarily in fungi and insects, is used as a first step in glucose metabolism as a source of energy. The products of this reaction are gluconolactone and hydrogen peroxide. The gluconic acid produced, lowers the pH of the environment, helping in the chemical degradation of complex molecules which can be used as an energy source. The hydrogen peroxide acts as an antibacterial agent, inhibiting competing organisms. The specificity and activity of glucose oxidase makes it highly useful as a reagent in the biochemical industry as a sensor for the presence of glucose. AkrivisBio’s Glucose Oxidase Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure glucose oxidase in a wide range of biological samples with a sensitivity in the µUnit range.
