Glutamate dehydrogenase catalyzes the reversible oxidative deamination of glutamate to α-ketoglutarate and ammonia, serving as a link between carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism. It participates in ammonia metabolism, gluconeogenesis, energy production and nitrogen balance. In the liver, GDH participates in ammonia detoxification and glucose production during fasting. In the brain it helps maintain glutamate concentrations. In the pancreas it helps regulate amino acid stimulated insulin release. AkrivisBio’s Glutamate Dehydrogenase Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive means of measuring GDH activity in a variety of biological samples with a sensitivity below 10 µU per well.
