Glutathione S-transferases play an important role in metabolism, primarily phase II detoxification, protecting against a wide array of endogenous and exogenous toxic compounds. GSTs catalyze the conjugation of glutathione to electrophiles including peroxidized lipids, environmental toxins, carcinogens and drugs. GSTs participate in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, steroids and leukotrienes, Some GSTs possess peroxidase and isomerase activities and others act as signaling molecules, inhibiting Jun kinase and peroxide induced cell death. Given their wide range of activities, GSTs are attractive drug targets. AkrivisBio’s GST Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure GST activity in a variety of samples with a sensitivity below 250 µUnits per sample.
