Leucine aminopeptidase is an exopeptidase which cleaves N-terminal leucine from peptides. This process is essential for amino acid homeostasis. Leucine, besides being a fundamental building block of proteins is also a signaling molecule which activates the mTOR pathway, critical for cell growth, proliferation and autophagy regulation, and leucine aminopeptidase is an important regulating factor of leucine concentration. Leucine aminopeptidase is found in multiple tissues where it has local functions. In the kidney it aids in the reabsorption of amino acids, while in the liver it helps facilitate the ammonia cycle. AkrivisBio’s Leucine Aminopeptidase Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure enzyme activity in a variety of sample types with a sensitivity of ~ 1 µUnit per well.
