Lipases play a pivotal role in digestion, absorption, and metabolism of dietary fats in organisms. In the human digestive system, lipases break down triglycerides into fatty acids and glycerol, enabling efficient nutrient absorption in the intestine. Lipase is a key regulator of energy balance. By releasing fatty acids from adipose tissue during periods of energy demand, lipases enable the body to access stored energy reserves. This is particularly crucial during fasting or physical activity when glucose availability is limited. Lipase activity influences lipid-related disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Dysregulation of lipase function can lead to abnormal lipid profiles and contribute to the development of these conditions. AkrivisBio’s Lipase Activity Assay II is directed towards lipases which digest triglycerides with an artificial substrate which mimics them, but which contain thioester linkages in place of the typical carboxyl ester linkage. The assay can be used with a variety of sample types and exhibits a sensitivity of below 50 µUnits per well.
