Phospholipase C, plays a pivotal role in signal transduction pathways and regulating various cellular functions. Its primary function is to hydrolyze phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) into two essential second messengers: inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol. The metabolic significance of PLC stems from its ability to modulate intracellular calcium levels and activate protein kinase C. When PLC cleaves PIP2, IP3 diffuses through the cytosol and binds to IP3 receptors on the smooth endoplasmic reticulum, triggering the release of calcium from intracellular stores. The increase in cytosolic calcium concentration initiates a cascade of activities, affecting numerous cellular processes. Simultaneously, DAP remains bound to the membrane and with calcium, activates PKC. These combined effects influence a host of cellular functions. AkrivisBio’s Phospholipase C Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure PLC in a variety of sample types with a sensitivity below 20 mU.
